S. Korea provides hi-tech road repair equipment

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea has given a mobile cement mixing plant to the Lao government to assist with road repair.

The equipment has been provided under an ODA project titled “Self-Reliance Project of Road Construction and Management in Laos”, which is supported by the Korean ministry and implemented by the Korean government.

The project is supported by the Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology under President Kim Byung Suk as the main implementing organisation, and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology and Daesin Plant Industry Co., Ltd.

Laos’ Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Vientiane officials organised a ceremony on Tuesday to officially receive the cement mixing plant, which will be used to speed up the surfacing of unpaved roads.

The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr Ngampasong Muongmany, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Laos, Mr Jung Yung Soo.

The event was also attended by Director Woo Jong Ha of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Policy Support Directorate Jeong Chang Gu of the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK) on behalf of the South Korean government.

The Lao government was represented by about 60 individuals including the Mayor of Vientiane, Mr Atsaphangthong Siphandone.

it is expected that continuous and uninterrupted ODA cooperation opportunities between South Korea and Laos will yield great benefits in the years to come.

Seminars will be organised between Korean and Lao personnel about road construction techniques so that continuous technological exchanges between the two countries will take place.

The donated equipment (listed as the DSMP-60 model) is described as the best solution for producing cement-based road construction materials.
