High delegations of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Lao PDR visited Myanmar Union

 At the invitation of H.E Mr. Cho Line, Minister, Ministry of Construction of Myanmar Union, Mr. SommadPholsena, Minister, Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Lao PDR and an accompanying delegation visited   Myanmar Union on the 8thto 10thJanuary, 2013. The visit aimed to discuss the implementation of a project for construction of a Lao-Myanmar Mekong Friendship Bridge, between Xiengkok (Luangnamtha Province, Lao PDR) and Keng Lab (Myanmar Union). The meeting of both parties washeld  at 1:00 pm on 9 January 2013, at the Myanmar Ministry of Construction meeting room, in Nay Pyi Taw New Capital. Both parties discussed and exchanged ideas and commitment on technical construction issues, procurement and control of construction and contracting companies, and construction areas. The date fora ground breaking ceremony for construction the Bridge was planned for this 16thFebruary 2013.

On the same day, the Lao delegations of Ministry of Public Works and Transport visited the President of Myanmar Union,H.E TheinSein. On this occasion the president gave high value to Lao-Myanmar friendship and cooperation, as both countries are neighbors and have maintained good friendship and relationsfor a long time. H.E expressed appreciation to the visitof the Lao delegation and gave high meaning to the Bridge Construction Project. The Bridge will provide better facilities for communication and transport, such as easy crossingto both Lao and Myanmar mainly, and also providing links to neighboring countries such as Vietnam and China for encouraging Trade, Investment and Tourism together. H.E also called for good cooperation to encourage the completion of the Bridge construction soon, as planned. The Lao delegation expressed its sincere thanks to the President, H.E TheinSein, for the warm welcome and special advice for the Bridge project, and also reported to the leadership of Myanmar on the results of discussions with Ministry of Construction aboutimportant issues discussed, and preparations for ground breaking ceremony on 16thFebruary 2013.
